REFLECTION
EXPERIENCE: I feel like this is so far the toughest semester and I had to go through a lot of stress to manage my time and get everything done. However, I am most happy with the work I have done in Publishing design. I am disappointed at my performance in some other modules but I am very happy and proud of the tasks and work that I did in this module. Book designing and working with was something that always fascinate me and it was a wonderful experience to print a book of my own design.
OBSERVATION: I always appreciate Mr.Vinod's constructive feedback, criticism and support. He always encourages me to read, explore and experiment more in whatever task I do. His feedback always pushes me into learning and experimenting more every week. Publishing design deals with a more intellectual subject with a lot of history and content to learn from. Which is why I decided to work on the Lord of the Rings and learn about medieval drawings and illustrations. The research for the illustrations as well as the experimenting and Mr.Vinod's input taught me a lot about these art-forms that I did not know before.
FINDINGS: During the research for the history of publishing and books along with Tolkien's illustrations and map drawings, I explored how books and publications were hand made in earlier times. Which is a very interesting subject to learn and understand especially for design students. I found that learning the origins and absolute basics of the technologies that we use today is fundamental because I believe the tools will keep on changing and updating. In order to adapt to those changes and become more than the obvious, I feel like we need to start from the beginning and keep on learning and developing our skills instead of getting attached to the latest trends or tools.
