Creative Brand Strategy - Task 2; Ideation & Design Direction
Instructions
Task 2: Design Ideation & Design Direction
For the second task, we were instructed to research and plan the ideation and design direction for the proposal on Task 1. Since Ashley's branding is for a kids art teacher, I figured the design style needs to have a fun and child friendly theme to it. So I did some research for the ideation and design direction.
2A: Ideation
Key Message: For the key message, I decided to use "Artists in the making" as it is describes the main purpose and goal of the brand. The idea behind the brand is to guide kids into bringing out the best of their creativity and imagination and help them express themselves.
Campaign Name: For the campaign name, I had a few ideas but finalised on "Ashley's Art World" because it contains the most important elements while it also sounds simple and suitable.
Website: The website will feature information about Ashley's brand and services as well as promotional content.
Social Media: The social media for the brand will feature art-related content such as art tips, ideas, DIY tips...
Merchandise: Merchandise items will include art-related children's items such as colouring books, stickers, stamps that are designed in the brand art style.
Posters & Flyers: Printed posters and flyers containing brand information that is designed with the brand's style.
Intro video: The intro video will be an animation with the characters, Ashley and her dogs delivering brand information.
2B: Design Direction
Design style:The design style for Ashley's brand will be simplified realistic cartoon/illustrations. Characters will be developed that are used throughout each design content.
Characters: The characters for the cartoonish designs will feature Ashley herself and her two prairie dogs, Tom and Jerry. Here are some ideas of how they would be designed like.
Logo: The logo will feature the characters along with the word mark of the brand name.
Colours: A classic retro styled colours with more scenery/natural shades will be used for the designs
Week 5: The typography doesn't suit the design style. Need to specify on which art style to follow (the visual references are very different from each other)
Week 6: Include brand Identity in the presentation
Experience: Task 2 was fairly simple and straightforward. It also helped that I did some research on ideation during the process of Task 1. I feel happy about the direction but slightly worried for the time-management since illustrating characters / animating is very time-consuming.
Findings: I came across some very interesting ideas and designs from various different designers and artists which gave me some cool ideas that I will try to put in the design phase
