Final Project: Promotional merchandise and Pop display

For the final task, we were instructed to design merchandise items and a pop display for the group project we did in Project 2.

Below is the presentation of Project 1:

Figure 1.1: Project 1 presentation - PDF / 01.06.2022

Firstly, we had a discussion among our group members as well as the food production group to brainstorm ideas for merchandise items suitable for the product.

The ideas we got from the group includes lunchbox, tote bag, mug, keychain, bowl, button pins, thermos, coffee mug and reusable containers. We shared these ideas with Mr.Shamsul and with his suggestions we finalised on making these items below.

  1. Thermos
  2. Reusable container
  3. Lunch box bag
  4. Coffee mug
  5. Pop display
After finalising the ideas, we split the work among group members. As there are 5 members, we decided it would be better to have one person design one item. Here is how we split the designs:
  • Thermos - Xin Thien
  • Reusable container - Amber
  • Lunch box bag - Qing Yee
  • Coffee mug - Wanda
  • Pop Display - Hussain

Pop Display

As I got to design the pop display, I did some research on some of the pop display ideas. The idea of a pop display is to attract the product and the brand to customers. I found some cool ideas.

From the visual references, I particularly liked the idea of Coca Cola using the shape of the coke bottle to create the structure of the pop display. I tried to do a similar approach and create the structure on the shape of the product cup.

I made the design using illustrator and then replaced the mockup exports into the cups. I placed the logo in a circular panel in the middle of the pop display

I showed the design to Mr.Shamsul and he said that the logo should stand out. He said so far the logo is not attracting or visible. He said that it needs work but other works from the group members were good to go.

Here is the progress of the other items by group members:

After getting the feedback, I decided to change the placement and size of the logo panel.

I redesigned by placing the logo panel on the top of the stand and made it bigger to make it more visible and to stand out.

Here is the final mockup of how it turned out.

We had discussions and finalised the designs among group members with feedback from Mr.Shamsul.

REFLECTION:

The final project was easier compared to previous projects but the timing was difficult due to final assignments on other modules. I am not very satisfied with the result of this assignment compared to other tasks but overall the designs and effort from group members were good. I feel like we managed to do well in the group assignments with food science students as well.
