Task 2A - LOGO ANALYSIS

For task 2A, we were instructed to analyse 28 different logos from already established brands. We were told to identify the elements, typography, colours and other aspects of the logo and make a presentation of the analysis. Here is my presentation:

Task 2B - PERSONAL BRAND - Walnut Woodshop

For task 2B, we were instructed to come up with a personal brand of our own ideas and interests. We were told to come up with a logo and brand identity along with the brand.

The first week was for mind-mapping and idea generation. After some brainstorming and discussions with Miss Lillian, I came with the brand idea of Walnut Woodshop - A carpentry workshop that specialises in Walnut wood. Here is an overall idea of the workshop along with keywords that corresponds with the idea.

The following is an idea map of why the idea of Walnut was chosen.

After getting a good idea of the brand direction, I went on to look for references on how the brand logo and identity would look like along with other things such as products and workshop design ideas.

Logo Design:

After getting the ideas for the brand and logo, I began sketching some ideas and concepts for the logo. It took more than 20 logo sketches to come up with a few solid options. Here are the sketches:

Designing digital logos began after the sketches. I chose 3 of the sketches to digitise, and here is how each of the designs look.

With the feedback of Miss Lillian, I decided to use to bottom design as the final approach. I then proceeded to design a logo guide according to the Task 2B submission guidelines. The guidelines suggest to present the following elements in task 2B:

1) Logo in BW, reverse & colour
2) Logo space rationalization & clearspace
3) Logo with strapline
4) Logo with rationale (brand ideals)
5) Logo min. size
6) Primary & Secondary colours
7) Patterns derived from logo
8) Logo’s or brand’s typeface
9) Logo Animation (Gif)

After finalising the logo design, I created the logo guide with all the elements. Here is the final submission of the logo guide:

FEEDBACK

Week 2: The idea for the brand is solid. Try to explore more into the idea and find out how the physical workshop will look like along with references and ideas for the logo

Week 3: Define the reason for choosing walnut, the significance and meaning of walnut. How walnut is used in carpentry...etc.

Week 4: Start sketching ideas. Brand ideas are solid

Week 5: Sketches are good. Promising ideas included. Sketch 10 more for the next class to get more ideas.

Week 6: The W sketch is very unique and good. Try to digitise that one along with two other sketches. Needs more sketches to come up with a solid idea.

Week 7: The digital logo looks good. Try to use proportional elements such as circles and lines when digitising logos.
