PROJECT 3: FINAL PRODUCT

For the final project, we were instructed to use the knowledge gathered from the data collection stage to design and make our final products; the rock and roll inspired phone cases.

PROGRESSION:

Our group discussed some ideas and relatable quotations or lyrics that we can use in our designs. After that, we proceeded to individually design some phone cases. I did some research to get ideas and references for my designs.

Using the references and quotations that I liked, I designed 3 cases that include the 3 design styles that we used in the survey (illustrative, photographic and typographic). The quotes I used were from songs by rock legends that has a rebellious meaning behind it.

Here are mockups of the final designs I made for our project:

Here are the designs from other members of our group; Lene, Haura, Abigail, Devina, Hui Ying and Ayaan.

After everyone updated their finalised designs,  we then proceeded to look for the best options for printing. Phone case printing was more expensive than we expected and there wasn't a fast delivery option. With the time and budget limitations, we decided that the best option was to print the designs as stickers and buy plain phone cases. We also decided on making 7 cases.

We printed the cases on waterproof sticker paper and the cutout the designs to fit the cases.

FINAL OUTCOME

After printing and pasting the designs on the cases, we took photographs to show the compiled / individual designs.

FEEDBACK:

Week 6:

Specific Feedback: Mr.Vinod's comments on our design progress was to make them better and to do it quick. And also to start working on the presentation of the products.

REFLECTION

EXPERIENCE: The entire experience of this module was very much stretched thin. We were given a short period of time to get a lot of work congested in. That affected a lot in the quality of our products and work as well. We initially planned to present digital mockups of the final product. But we were told that we had to produce physical products. Laser printing on phone cases was much more expensive than we expected and also the delivery time exceeds our time frame. We did not have the time to re-think our idea since we didn't have the time. So we had to compromise the quality of the product and find a quicker and cheaper solution.

OBSERVATION: Considering the limitations, I think all the members in the group did well and made good designs for the product as well.

FINDINGS: While working on this module, I came across lots of information about rock and roll and it's relation with design. It gave me a lot of creative ideas in terms of design as well as introduced me to really good music.
