LECTURES:

Week 1: Our first lecture by Dr.Charles was about Netnography.

Netnography: a type of online or internet, ethnography; netnography provides guidelines for the adaptation of participant-observation procedures to the contingencies of online community and culture that manifest through computer-mediated communications" -Kozinets (2010)

Week 2: Our second by Dr.Jinchi was about culture and us. The lecture was about understanding different cultures around the world.

TASK 1: PROPOSAL

Week 1: During the first lecture session, we were instructed about the tasks of the module. For the first week, we were asked to form a group and choose a culture that we will use for our research on the theme "Purpose". And for the culture that we choose, we were also told to come up with 5 different ideas for our project.

We formed our groups and had a few discussions to choose a culture and the 5 ideas. We decided to go with "Rock and Roll" culture.

Week 2: On the second week after lecture sessions, we consulted Mr.Vinod with our ideas and progress. After his feedback, our group worked more on the individual ideas and proposal presentation. I worked on the 2nd idea that was to design mobile phone cases that are inspired from rock and roll design styles of the 70s and 80s. Here is a digital sketch I made for the idea:

Week 3: On week 3 we finalised the proposal and submitted the presentation video and slides.

REFLECTION

Experience: The experience of this module so far has been very challenging in terms of keeping up with deadlines and working with groups. Working in groups online can be difficult at times in terms of scheduling and having multiple meetings a week apart from the class times. But the different approaches, perspectives and input from different people in the group makes for very rich results and also helps you learn a lot.

Observations: I learned a lot during the research about rock and roll culture, history as well as the history of graphic design in that period. I came across fascinating details about both these worlds

Findings: I found this module to be very interesting as well as challenging due to the timeframe. I had expected the semester to be easier as there were only two modules, but we had so much work and assignments from both modules so it was very difficult to keep up with deadlines.
