LECTURE:

Today's lecture was based on Poster Design Development. This lecture is very important as it is the guideline for our next project.
Posters are a conventional medium to convey information to a target audience. Poster designs can be cluttered or straight-forward. The power of posters to create awareness, conveying brand messages, luring audiences into buying products...etc is immense.
PSA or Public Service Announcements are messages in public interest (social posters)

The making of PSA posters can be divided into 3 phases. Research, Defining concept, Developing. Researching about the topic include studying and gathering all information, writing  summary, highlighting key points and defining other elements. Defining the concept means creating sections for the design, creating a sketch and fill in the details. Developing stage is where you draft the digital poster based on the sketch and information. And also adding the details.

INSTRUCTION: PRACTICAL

  1. Follow the WEEK 5 Tutorial Demo (HEARST MANSION)

  1. Follow the step-by-step video to edit it in photoshop:

  1. Attach the Digital Imaging exercise 01 - PART 1 (SHAZAM)

  2. Attach the Digital Imaging exercise 01 - PART 2 (MY REFLECTION)

Images for reference

PRACTICAL:

For this exercise, I am supposed to cut out Shazam from the Shazam movie poster and place him on the Hearst photo so that it looks natural. For this, I followed Mr.Martin's video tutorial thoroughly.

Firstly, I downloaded the images and opened them separately in Photoshop after which I started cutting out the shape of shazam using the polygonal lasso tool. It's a bit time-consuming but still more accurate than many others and slightly more effective.

Then I scaled him approximately to a regular human size.

After that, I tried to blend him into the surrounding colours by adjusting colour settings using the match colour tool.

And then, using the brush tool and gausiun blur tool, I created a shadow of him on the wall.

Figure 1.5 Shadows.

After that, I created his refletion by duplicating the layer and then flipping it vertically and placing him in a realistic position on the water. and then I adjusted the brighness, contrast and color levels on his reflection to add the effect of water reflections and then added a very slight gaussiun blur to give the ripples effect. And I am done with this part of the exercise.

For the second part of the exercise, we were told to do the same thing but using a personal photo. For this I used the only full-body size photo I found of me from my hard drive.

Figure 2.0 Figure photo

After choosing the photo, I opened it in Photoshop to do the same thing as I did with Shazam. Firstly, using the polygon lasso tool, I cut out my photo to remove the background.

Figure 2.1 Remove background

Then I flipped the photo to match with the composition and placed it on the Hearst photo in photoshop and created a shadow of mine behind my image using brush tool and gaussian blur tool.

Finally I created my reflection on the pool by duplicating the image and and flipping it vertically. however this time the toning need to be more as the tone of the photo in the reflection was standing out more than shazam's. So I decreased the brightness more and desaturated the colour as well. Here is how it looked.
