LECTURE: Today's lecture took us to more advanced features of Adobe Photoshop; Adjustment layers and Filters. Adjustment layers are non-destructive image editing tools that adds colour and tonal adjustments to the images without permanently changing the images. Adjustment layers can be used to change brightness, contrast, levels, curves, exposure and selective colours. Filters also changes the values of the images but instantly and are pre-made.
INSTRUCTION:
Attach your WEEK 3 & WEEK 4 digital collage exercise below.
Explain what you’ve learned in the description section.
WEEK 3 (PEN TOOL & LASSO EXERCISE)
DESCRIPTION:
This is the Composition #2 from the three compositions of week 3. Mr.Fauzi preferred this one over the other two. What I was going for when doing this composition was to create something similar to a UFO beaming light rays and showing different dimensions of space and time through the light rays; the UFO being the typewriter in this case. From the materials provided, I used lighter photos aligned next to darker ones to create a contrast between the elements. The idea of the train coming out of the typewriter and into the building came when I was experimenting with the perspectives and lines on the photos to combine each other.
WEEK 4 (ADJUSTMENT LAYERS & FILTERS )
DESCRIPTION:
For adjustments and filters, I first created a color balance adjustment layer followed by a levels adjustment layer. By using these two, I was able to make the whole collage less contrast-y and have a more retro feel to it which I had intended because of the use of elements such as magazines and typewriters in the composition. After adjustments, I examined the collage for improvements and I noticed that the buildings give a blue shade to one side of the collage and so I got the idea of creating a gradient of the opposite color, orange, on the other side to balance out the color tones. I created a gradient fill adjustment layer of a gradient going from orange to colorless and set it on the opposing angle from the buildings. The collage and it’s adjustments and color tones feel even now that I have added a gradient to it..
FEEDBACK:
Mr. Fauzi gave his feedback for my design during class. He said he liked week 3 composition and that it was the first time he's seen such a composition for this exercise, however the adjustments made on week 4 doesn't seem necessary so he recommended I go with week #3 composition as my final submission.
