INSTRUCTABLE POSTER:

For this project, I had to design a poster based on a video from Pasta Grannies. I was told to extract the recipe from the chosen video and to present the recipe in my own way.

There were many interesting videos on Pasta Grannies. I especially liked this video of Cesaria's Lorighittas which I decided to use for my project.

I watched the video a few times to understand the ingredients, recipe as well as visual elements that I can use for my poster. And then I wrote the steps Cesaria follows throughout the recipe. I tried to summarise the steps as much as possible.

Step 1: The Dough

  • Use derum wheat semolina flour and warm salted water.
  • Knead the dough for 30 minutes
Step 2: Twisted hoops
  • Roll the dough into long spaghetti strands of pasta
  • Wrap around 3 fingers twice
  • Remove and roll it to make a twisted hoop.
Step 3: Chicken Ragout
  • Use onions, garlic, parsley, white wine and tomato passata to make chicken ragout
Step 4: Bon Appetit
  • Boil lorighittas with salted water.
  • Season it with pecorino cheese and lay them with tomato sauce.
  • chicken pieces are served seperately
After writing the steps, I created the moodboard for the poster in which I stacked visual elements and screenshots from the video as well as colour schemes and fonts.

I then did a simple sketch of how I wanted the poster to be composed.

After doing the breakdown, moodboard and sketch, I started drawing the items from the ingredients list. I wanted the poster to have a 2d cartoonish feel with noticably thick outline strokes.

I used reference images from internet while drawing some of the items to get a more accurate look.

When I was happy with the illustrations, I then proceeded to do the composition for the poster with accordance to the sketch. But I had to somewhat change the direction from the sketch to have a better composition.

After getting the composition that I wanted, I finalised the poster.
