LECTURE:
Week 4: The art of Sound Design
On this week's lecture, Mr.Martin explained about the importance of
choosing and editing sound in movies and videos. The 3 types of sound
are:
- Speech (Dialogue / voice over)
- Music (Enhances the mood)
- Sound effects (Ambience / background noise / hard or cut effects)
Dubbing: (Automated Dialogue Replacement (ADR) is the process of
re-recording dialogues after filming process to improve audio
quality.
Foley: sound effects technique for synchronous effects / live
effects.
Project 1 Exercise 1: Audio dubbing exercise
For this exercise, we are instructed to use dialogues of a scene from the Pixar movie "Soul" and record the audios and do dubbing using Premiere pro and Adobe Audition.
I watched the clip for the exercise and since I had the movie in my laptop, I watched the scene from the movie with audio to get an idea. After that I recorded the dialogues from my phone and exported them into my laptop. I downloaded some ambient sounds from the provided links as well for background noise. After getting the audio clips, I compiled them in Premiere Pro.

Project 1 Exercise 3: Sound design
FINAL REFLECTION: : Audio assignments and exercises were fun and interesting. The effects of changing up the qualities of sound clips give very cool results and can be applied to audio / video projects more effectively.
