LECTURE:

Reflections from Lecture slides:

This week's lecture was about the basics of composition and how it is used in various forms of design.
The basic compositional elements in design, as taught on today's lecture, were focal point, Scale & Hierarchy, balance of elements, and white space.

The focal point of any composition is a key element in a particular art that helps the viewer's eye to naturally be directed throughout the design and follow the important directions and find meaning. similarly, Scale & Hierarchy guides the viewer through the design by signifying which elements are more prominent from others that helps with communicating the message or function of the design. Balancing the elements in design refers to the composition of a design using varying "weights" of individual elements. The weight of elements is signified using their sizes, colour, texture and other characteristics.
White space, also known as empty space is mostly used to balance the design and set the main focus of a composition. Properly used white space in design makes complex compositions with lots of elements look balanced and pleasing to eye.

3. Take 3 photo of your collage pre-composition  and insert it on the section below

4. Submit (Turn In) this W2_TUTORIAL

1. PRE-COMPOSITION #1

For this exercise, I found a local magazine and cut out some texts and images from the sports section. It’s a local newspaper from Maldives and the language used is  “dhivehi”. The main title in bolds says “Aguero”, the name of the football player used as the main element for this collage.

The circular text cutout will be used as the background and as the main element for composition.

2. PRE-COMPOSITION #

For this composition, i placed the main texts horizontally and aligned both the players and background text diagonally to create an interesting flow. The directions that both players are looking at follows the direction of the texts in the background.

3. PRE-COMPOSITION #3

For my final composition, I aligned everything from the players to main texts and background diagonally because everything somehow lines up well-balanced that way.

FEEDBACK:

Mr. Fauzi replied to my work on Google Classroom:
"Good composition Husen!
You May choose the Composition #3 and glue it for the final submission on WEEK3. Thanks"
